In a bit of a surprise move, RHP Yariel Rodriguez has been outrighted off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster. Rodriguez has three years and $21.3 million remaining on his contract and passed through waivers unclaimed by any club.

For the Blue Jays, this is a move to clear up space on the 40-man roster. Rodriguez remains in the organization, but will head into Spring Training on the minor league roster. Expect Rodriguez to possibly contribute to the Blue Jays in some way next season, either making the roster out of Spring Training or earning his way back up after pitching in Buffalo.

Rodriguez was a key piece in the Blue Jays' bullpen last season, especially during the first half of the season. The right-hander recorded a 3.08 ERA across 66 appearances, including a 2.47 ERA prior to the All-Star break. After struggling in two ALCS outings against the Martiners, Rodriguez was ultimately left off the Blue Jays' World Series roster.
